#guardiancare initiative to focus on the three pillars of Health, Community and the Environment

To celebrate its 54th anniversary after two years of pandemic-driven challenges Guardian Malaysia today launched its #guardiancare initiative to focus on caring for the health of customers and the community.

Angela Teo, Head of Marketing, Guardian Health & Beauty Sdn Bhd said: “#guardiancare is a sustainability initiative, that cares for our customers, their family, the shopping choices they make and also for the community they live in.

“We would like to inspire and empower customers to make healthy and sustainable choices when it comes to choosing the health and beauty brands they trust at Guardian. At the end of the day, we want our customers to ‘care’ about what they buy and in turn, make the environment better.

“At Guardian, we believe that beauty begins from the inside. By choosing to care, together we can make a difference.”

Consequently, the initiative is centred around ‘because i care’ sentiment, and will focus on three key pillars connected to Guardian’s brand purpose. They are: 

 1. Health – good health and well-being of our customers and the communities 


2. Community – educating the community on their health concerns 

3. Environment – promoting responsible consumption and production practices, reducing single plastic use

To launch this initiative, Guardian is kicking off their Health campaign by giving away 10,000 #guardiancare packs, worth a total of RM400,000, to school children in 30 schools throughout the nation, in partnership with Yayasan Perintis Malaysia. Each #guardiancare pack will contain a specially designed Covid-19 Handbook, which has been approved by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health and hygiene products such as handwash, sanitizers, face mask, tissue paper and Gummies for kids vitamins. These #guardiancare packs will be distributed to B40 schoolchildren at schools identified by nearby Guardian stores. 

For the second pillar of Community and its health, Guardian, which has the largest network of pharmacists in South East Asia, will actively educate the community on important health issues and concerns especially during these Covid-19 times through Guardian’s social media platforms and in-store activations. 

Guardian has started its Pharmacist Community Outreach programme through Facebook Live segments and Instagram where our followers can ask the Pharmacist any health concern questions ‘live’ and get their answers instantly. 


In addition, Guardian will also educate consumers on products that offer ’Clean beauty’ with natural or green ingredients and also products that are ‘Cruelty free’ (not tested on animals) and with sustainable packaging, products that are packed in re-cyclable or re-useable packaging. 

 To care for the Environment, Guardian has introduced a special Eco-friendly re-useable #guardiancare bag in their stores now which will sell for only RM1.

“In conjunction with Malaysia’s National Environment Day celebrated on 21 October 2021, we would like reduce consumption of single use plastic bags in our stores by encouraging our customers to use these #guardiancare bags instead which can be re-used many times and last a long time. The bags can carry far more weight than single use plastic bags. In this way, both our customers and Guardian are caring for the planet together,” Angela said.

“We hope our customers can join and support us on this #guardiancare journey that we have embarked. As you can see, there are many iCare programs running and we will continue to introduce more in 2022 to ensure #guardiancare becomes an important aspect of their lives with great benefits to them, their families and their community at large,” added Angela.

2021 Hot Wheels™ Legends Tour Returns to Malaysia

Custom car enthusiasts enter their builds in the hopes to see their original designs transformed into a 1:64 Hot Wheels® die-cast 

The Hot Wheels™ Legends Tour is back in Malaysia for the second time! This celebration of car culture, held in collaboration with Art of Speed Malaysia, is one leg of a global search for a custom vehicle worthy of becoming a Hot Wheels® die-cast car. The judging panel, made up of Hot Wheels® global designers as well as local guest judges, shortlisted the Top 12 entries out of the 163 submitted for the Malaysian finals set to be livestreamed on Sunday, 17 October 2021 at 8PM.

This year, Malaysian custom car enthusiasts join their fellow hobbyists from the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand in the race to be crowned the winner. This year, the Malaysian leg of the Hot Wheels™ Legends Tour saw more than double the entries that were submitted in 2020. Each submission judged on Authenticity, how closely the car embodies the Hot Wheels® spirit; Creativity, how well the design stands out from the rest; and Garage Spirit, how well the design exemplifies the attitude of “built not bought”. The winner of the Malaysian finals will represent the country on a global stage, going up against the winners from the other legs of the Hot Wheels™ Legends Tour. The overall winner will see their design inducted into the Hot Wheels Garage of Legends™ and turned into a 1:64 die-cast car to be sold - and played with by kids of all ages - around the world.

The Hot Wheels® designers on board as judges are Brendon Vetuskey, the current lead designer for the Monster Trucks die-cast and the Red Line Club vehicles; Manson Cheung, a Hot Wheels® 3D Modeler best known for his sculpting work; and Sam Kok, a Hot Wheels® designer currently the key lead package designer for Mattel. The local guest judging panel is made up of Christian Coujin, who is well known in the community for his collection of RWB cars and enthusiasm for all things custom or modified; Tengku Djan, a Malaysian professional drift driver who has taken part in the D1 Grand Prix; and Azrina Jane Abdullah, a stunt driver with a flair for drifting and circuit racing.

The Top 12 Malaysian finalists offer a great mix of cars from across the globe - with representation from Japanese, German, Italian, and even Malaysian car manufacturers. The finalists are: Lee Ming Hui (Audi TT MK2), Sofyan Darmadi (1969 VW Beetle Vandetta), Norsayang bin Ngatiman (1968 Toyota Corolla KE10), Addison Victor Liew Kian Tek (1980 Mazda RX7 1st Gen Savanna Sa22C), Jeffrey Teoh (2008 Ferarri 430), Karrthikan Amerudalingam (1997 Proton Wira 1.5 GL), Abdul Wahab bin Bahari (1986 Daihatsu Mira Walkthrough Van), Elden Schrock (1987 Toyota Cressida), Mohd Iltizam bin Mohamad Sokri (1990 Toyota Estima TCR 21), Tham Kheng Ming (2002 Toyota MRS MR2 Spyder), Norman Ng (2014 Porsche Boxster 981), and Kathires Thanabal (2012 Honda Accord). 

The Malaysian finals will be streamed from the RWB Museum located in Johor Bahru and curated by Christian Coujin himself. The RWB Museum is a celebration of all things RAUH-Welt Begriff as well as its founder, Akira Nakai, and has been lauded by the custom community as an incredible showcase of what makes the hobby so exciting.

Facial acne, though common among adolescents and young adults, impacts their quality of life. Studies have shown that acne can cause psychosocial disturbances such as depression and anxiety. Citing a research done by Brody, 2019, “acne is not a killer, but it can scar people literally and psychologically.”

In addressing issues arising from facial acne and also to offer a solution to help with acne care, Mentholatum has launched a new skincare range for acne and oily-prone skin known as Mentholatum Acnes.

Salicylic Acid (BHA) is added into the formula to help unclog pores and combat acne. The antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties of the Avocado Extract is a calming agent to calm the skin, at the same time remove sebum for longer lasting oil control. Vitamin C + E antioxidants are also found in this formulation to soothe skin, brighten dull skin, lighten acne marks, and strengthen the skin barrier.

ii. Mentholatum Acnes Powder Lotion (RM19.90, 150ml)

This sebum-balancing and oil-control formula helps remove dead skin cells and fight blemishes by penetrating deep into the pores. It also contains oil absorbing mineral powder to help absorb excess sebum and tighten the pores for smoother looking skin. To prevent excessive dryness, Aloe Vera Extract is added for its moisturising properties, as well as for long-lasting freshness. Similar to the Creamy Wash, the Powder Lotion also contains Vitamin C to help brighten dull skin, lighten acne marks, and strengthen skin barrier.

iii. Mentholatum Acnes Oil Control Moisturiser (RM29.90, 45g)

The moisturising properties of this moisturiser is derived from apple, aloe vera, seaweed, and chamomile extracts to keep the skin feeling soft and moisturised. The apple extract also works alongside with Salicylic Acid for gentle exfoliation; while bitter cherry extract is added to improve skin’s elasticity, leaving the skin plump and youthful.

iv. Mentholatum Acnes Anti-Acne Spot Gel (RM21.90, 18g)

This spot treatment contains 2% Sulphur that effectively treat stubborn acnes. Added with Salicylic Acid, it will reduce excessive sebum, remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, and prevent acne breakouts. It also contains Vitamin E and Licorice extract to soothe and calm irritated acne spots.

To start-off your acne-care routine, cleanse the skin by squeezing an appropriate amount of Mentholatum Acnes Creamy Wash onto wet palms, lather with water and massage gently. Then, rinse thoroughly with water. After cleansing, pat on the Mentholatum Acnes Powder Lotion onto the skin with cotton pads or just your palms. Remember to shake the bottle before every usage to mix the mineral powder and the solution. Then, apply the Mentholatum Acnes Oil-Control Moisturiser evenly on the skin and gently massage until it is fully absorbed by the skin. Use these three products for your daily day and night time acne skincare routine.

For spot treatment, apply the Mentholatum Acnes Anti-Acne Spot Gel topically 2-3 times a day on the affected areas. The Anti-Acne Spot Gel can be used before applying makeup. Before applying, ensure your hands and skin are thoroughly cleansed to prevent contamination.

Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Air Negara (SPAN) is teaming up with Shopee to encourage Malaysians to use water-efficient products through the Jimat Air 1.0 campaign, from now to 31 December 2021. 


Malaysian households will be provided with a RM200 voucher when buying the selected water-efficient washing machines approved by SPAN through the e-commerce platform. There are more than 200 types of washing machines carrying the “Jimat 1.0” tag for ease of identification, to be featured in this campaign via a microsite.

The Jimat Air 1.0 microsite can be found in the Buy Malaysia in-app portal on the Shopee app homepage. Users can also reach the microsite by typing “Jimat Air” or “SPAN on Shopee” at the search bar.

Our ultimate goal is to reduce the country’s water consumption from the current 241 litre per capita per day, to 160 litre per capita per day by 2030.”
